Danish floral painter. Late 19th Century.
Oil on canvas mounted on plate. Unsigned. Framed.
Size: 20" x 16" (510mm x 410mm) Framed: 23 1/2" x 19 3/4" (600mm x 500mm)
Well-preserved,
clear colors, a few minimal retouchings, barely visible. A darker line
at the upper edge (the frame is a bit too wide for the painting - see
photo). Not very visible when hanging. The work has recently been
professionally cleaned. Generally in very good condition.
Wooden
frame with golden gilt, early 1900s, later framed. The frame just
barely covers the edges, and may need some adjustments after shipping.
The painting is not attached to the wooden backing board. Some missing
gilt/abrassions, but generally in good condition for its age.
See photos.
The painting is in the manner of
Augusta Dohlmann (1847-1914). Danish female artist, a pupil of
O.D. Ottesen
The work is very typical for this artist.
A
wonderful flower painting of very high artistic quality. Beautiful rich
colors, skilfully painted in the tradition of the Danish floral
painters of the I L Jensen school. A rare work of art.
