87. Wallis Red & Black Rose Jersey Dress.

New with tags – Size UK10/EUR38/(US6).

This stretch, jersey dress, from good quality brand Wallis, is pillar box red with a pattern of black roses (largest about 2in/5cm across) that is striking and romantic. The black “roses” are slightly raised up from the red background, giving the fabric an “embossed” look.

The fabric is 53% polyester, 43% viscose, 4% elastane jersey and is of a sturdy thickness. The viscose will make it more “breathable” to wear, while the polyester & elastane should work against creasing. It is machine-washable, and might well need very little ironing (perhaps even none!) if hung up while still wet after washing – but that’s just a guess on my part. The labels are still on, so I’ve never tried that.

The size says size UK10 etc., but since labels can vary in what they refer to, please check your measurements to decide for yourself.

Some measurements which may help (approximate, but as good as I can manage & please see photos, too):

Sleeve length from shoulder = 25cm/10in

Length from centre back = 88cm/35in

Skirt length from approx. waist area to hem = 61cm/24in (so midi or knee-length depending on the height of the wearer).

Across bust from underarm to underarm = 42cm/16+1/2in

Across waist area = 37cm/14+1/2in

Across hip area = 43cm/17in

These measurements were taken with the fabric unstretched, so you could allow a bit more but the dress will be correspondingly tight-fitting. (Across the skirt, sideways, 10cm of fabric stretches to 13cm relatively easily).

I suggest it would fit (with fabric unstretched):

Max bust about 84cm/33in.

Max waist about 74cm/29in.

Max hips about 86cm/34in.

The dress was £38 new, so should be good value at £10 for an attractive, comfortable, easy-care dress that would look great at a party or on a night out.
