Brand new gear for your power spoiler on your 98-05 VW new beetle with the 1.8 liter turbo engine. This is the metal gear, see pictures for accurate detail of which gear.

*Please note* - minor work needs done to install this new gear. The original gear was not meant to be replaceable. They want you to buy a whole new complete motor assembly.

To start, the oval drive shaft that goes thru the gear has a lip on the top ledge that holds the gear from coming off. That lip will need to be removed (ground off) so that the gear can be removed. After removing the lip completely, the gear will still be snug onto the shaft, but can now be removed. I suggest securely holding the old gear in a stationary vise and work the old gear free from the center drive shaft. Once removed, I suggest using a file to put a small chamfer on the center oval of one side of the gear and on the drive shaft. The new gear will be snug going on and the chamfer will help to get the gear started on the shaft. Once you have it started on *STRAIGHT*, lightly tap on the gear face until it’s seated all the way down. If it fits on the shaft snugly, you may be done. If it’s somewhat loose, you will need to secure it to the drive shaft. I suggest a small amount of epoxy on the top only. Not much is needed as there is very little force that would make the gear pop off. MAKE SURE NOT TO GET ANY EPOXY ANYWHERE ELSE THAT WOULD CAUSE OTHER PROBLEMS!

BE CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE THE NEW GEAR!!

IF YOU CANNOT PERFORM THESE TASKS, PLEASE DO NOT BUY!

My repair suggestions above are just that, suggestions from when I did my repair. You may find other ways to repair that work better for you. I am merely just selling the gear so that you can repair yourself and not have to buy a whole new $250 assembly.
