Last Exit to Brooklyn (Inscribed)

Author: SELBY, Hubert Jr.
Title: Last Exit to Brooklyn (Inscribed)
Publication: New York: Grove Press, 1964

Description: First Edition. Octavo. This copy INSCRIBED by Selby in the year of publication, under his nickname Cubby, to front endpaper: "To Sy / My HR-10 friend / Luck / Cubby / 10-30-64." Classic novel of the 1950s Brooklyn underground: "On the Gowanus Expressway, just before the entrance to the Battery tunnel, there is a sign that says 'Last Exit to Brooklyn.' Leave the expressway at that exit and you find yourself in a jungle of waterfront docks, factory buildings, shabby bars, slum houses... toughs and thugs, soldiers and sailors, pimps and whores, johns and queers, with, on the fringes, the omnipresent, sullen cops-the dispossessed and downtrodden of the contemporary urban world." Cloth-backed boards, near fine. In illustrated jacket with portrait of Selby to rear; some fading with a number of short tears to edges; very good.
