In 1969, the US Navy established its Fighter Weapons School (NFWS), more popularly known as TOPGUN, at NAS Miramar, California. Its objective was to develop, refine and teach air combat maneuvering tactics and techniques to selected fleet air crews flying against aggressor squadrons. The aggressor aircraft are flown by TOPGUN instructors in a way that simulates the tactics and capabilities of air forces deemed most likely to be a threat to the US. The NFWS merged into the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center (NSAWC) at NAS Fallon, Nevada in 1996.
This model has a "washed" paint finish with panel line shading.
The model had been kept always in the BOX.
It is completely unopened and NEVER displayed (not even for photographs).
THIS MODEL IS A COLLECTOR ITEM.
The model features :
- 2 unique pilot figures with helmet deco
- canopy in open/close position
- landing gear in deployed (gear down) or "retracted" (gear up) in flight position via interchangeable cartridge parts
- variable sweep wings
- speed brakes in close/open positions
- interchangeable engine nozzles
- metal (brass) pitot tube
- special camera underbelly unit
- 2 glove vane pylons with 2 AIM-7 Sparrow & 2 AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles
- deployable glove vanes
