SANDY HOOK, CONNECTICUT, FIRE DEPARTMENT MID-20TH CENTURY, POST-WWII, CAIRN'S & BROTHER, AMERICAN VINTAGE FIREMAN'S HIGH EAGLE LEATHER & ENAMEL PAINTED BRASS HELMET, with SOFT LEATHER DROP-DOWN EAR & NECK PROTECTOR, ENAMEL PAINTED WHITE LETTERING on CUT-OUT RED RECESSED WINDOWS & AFFIXED, BLACK ENAMEL PAINTED FRONT SILVER COLORED METAL CROSS SHIELD
[There's some slight loss of the exterior vinyl rim fitted band about 2" in length. This occurred almost certainly while the helmet was in use in the field, fighting fires. The rest of the helmet is in very well-preserved condition & is complete, with a drop-down soft leather ear & neck protective skirt. The fire hat's signed 'Cairn's Sanitary' on a cloth label tab inside the hat. The front shield's made of leather, as is the hat's shell body & brim. The enamel painted brass high eagle's also without any damage, as is the front 'Sandy Hook FD' high leather shield. The hollow, pressed brass front high eagle isn't damaged or distorted as a result of debris previously crashing down upon the firefighter wearing the helmet. As a result of the brass hanger being undamaged, the heavy, thick front leather shield is also undamaged & without any loss. The fire hat was previously in the possession of a long-time resident of Sandy Hook, Connecticut, a small town in western CT. The fire hat was most likely produced after the culmination of WWII, between 1948 to 1964 by Cairn's & Brother, New York. The fire hat hasn't been touched. A strand of black vinyl tape previously affixed to the helmet, circumnavigates the base of the shell, along the hat's brim. No attempt has been made to remove the tape.]
