The PILOT Story,
The PILOT PEN CORPORATION was founded by Ryosuke Namiki in 1918, he was a mechanical engineer and professor at the Marchant Marine College. He had looked at all current writing materials and was amazed to find imperfections, and was convinced improvements could be made.
Using his skills in industrial engineering he started to create a HIGH QUALITY PROTOTYPE of a Fountain pen the most popular writing instrument of the time.
He then formed a partnership with a colleague Masa Wada, the NAKIMA MANUFACTURING COMPANY was started and they produced Fountain pens. In 1926 they established oversea offices in MALAYSIA, SINGAPORE, BOSTON, LONDON and SHANGHAI.
The name PILOT was chosen as the sea was another shared passion of both men, so they used the name PILOT referring to the fleets flagship.
From Fountain pens they soon became a Comprehensive Manufacturer of all writing instruments, the company then entered in to a period of high growth. In 1930 Alfred Dunhill joined the company opening up channels for sales in to Europe. Over the next years further products were introduced,
