The CarryOn Film Series is a British Comedy franchise comprising 31 films that werereleased between 1958 and 1992, produced by Peter Rogers and directedby Gerald Thomas. The humour of Carry On was that of the Britishcomic tradition of music hall, bawdy seaside postcards, innuendo andPantomime style double entendre.
Peter Rogers and directedby Gerald Thomas were responsible for all 31 films, usually on time and toa strict budget, and often employed the same crew. Between 1958 and 1992, theseries employed seven writers, most often Norman Hudis and TalbotRothwell.
The CarryOn series contains the largest number of films of any British filmfranchise, and is the second longest running (after James Bond), albeit with a14-year gap (1978–1992) between the 30th and 31st film releases.
ThisCollection showcases a regular ensemble of stars including SidJames, Kenneth Williams, Charles Hawtrey, JoanSims, Kenneth Connor, Peter Butterworth, HattieJacques, Terry Scott, Bernard Bresslaw, BarbaraWindsor, Jack Douglas, and Jim Dale.
