Handsome vintage MCM (a.k.a.) Mid-Century Modern Burke Division
for Brunswick Tulip side table style of Eero Saarinen comprised of a wood grain
laminate top with back beveled edge and a dark charcoal painted aluminum
pedestal base. The Burke for Brunswick label is on the underside of the
tabletop covered by the pedestal tulip base. Beautiful condition, keeping in
mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even
if it has been restored or refinished. Specifically, we have filled some dings
in the back beveled edge and repainted. There is a scrape on the foot of the
pedestal base, but we chose not to fill & paint but to leave it original.
There are also some “glossy” flecks in the faux wood top even after applying Lexol
Please see photos and zoom in for details as these are part of condition report.
We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1960-1970’s.
“Tiptoe through the tulips with me…” Did we get you singing?
Well, this table is definitely worth singing about! This is a FABULOUS vintage
Mid-Century Modern Burke Division for Brunswick Tulip side, end, or lamp table style
of Eero Saarinen comprised of a dark charcoal painted aluminum pedestal base
and a gorgeous wood grain laminate top with a flattering back beveled edge. The
Burke Tulip table is a classic collectible and sought after in its own right.
It will be wonderful beside a club chair in your living room adorned with
magazines, hosting a plant between two side chairs in the family room, or as a
place to set your book in the sitting room. Its smaller size makes it very
convenient to move from place to place and it has versatile style that will
blend in with many decor preferences. We consider it to be just a nice “go
anywhere” table for your home.
There is little information out there about Maurice Burke
however, throughout our extensive research and a few quotes from a conversation
on “Design Addict,” we know that he was born in the UK in 1921 and he died in
2013. He had several patents, designed for Arkana in 1960-1970’s, and he owned
Burke Inc. which was in Dallas, Texas. Brunswick acquired Burke Inc. in 1963. Brunswick
you may know better for pool tables and bowling balls but in 1952 they began
manufacturing school furniture and gymnasium equipment and, obviously, benches,
chairs, stools, and other equipment for bowling alleys and pool rooms. In 1963
Burke, Inc. was added as one of the many companies purchased to produce these
furnishings. Burke, Inc. was already making wonderful mid-century modern
furniture. However, in 1969, even though it was successful, Brunswick decided
to sell off its school furniture business to concentrate on its many many other
endeavors. They remain in business today.
This is a fantastic table with an iconic reputation and
timeless style. Don’t let this Tulip table by Burke for Brunswick slip through
your fingers! Make it YOURS!!!
