The PARKER story
1888 - Aged 25 George Safford Parker after years of development applies for his FIRST pen PATENT, with this began the Parker story. He had the following driving philosophy
“ IT WILL ALWAYS BE POSSIBLE TO MAKE A BETTER PEN “
1894 - He applies for his SECOND PATENT, after inventing the pioneering Anti-Leak System ( THE LUCKY CURVE ), this was a major breakthrough.
1906 - Inspired by the Art Nouveau movement, the Gold and Sterling Silver Parker SNAKE pens are launched and will become valuable collectors items.
1914 - The Parker TRENCH pen is launched, designed for soldiers in the trenches. These work with dry ink tablets, activated by adding water.
Also in this year Kenneth Parker joins the company.
1918 - Parker sales surpass £1 Million USD for the first time.
1921 - Parker introduce Duofold, a large, bold and premium priced pen, which captured the spirit of the roaring twenties. It soon became WORLD FAMOUS with the “ BIG RED “ known for it’s bright orange colour and 25 year guarantee.
1928 - Parker invent a Unique, Beautiful New Plastic material proven to resist cracking.
1931 - Parker after 3 years of development and 1021 experiments, release another MILESTONE product, a QUICK DRYING INK which dries fast on paper and needs no blotter.
1933 - The Vacumatic pen was introduced, and the now famous PARKER ARROW CLIP was developed by Joseph Platt.
1941 - The Parker 51 is introduced and goes on to win the Academy Award for best pen design.
1945 - The World War ll German surrender is signed with a Parker 51 giving to General Dwight D Eisenhower by his friend Kenneth Parker.
1954 - Production begins on the Jotter range of pens, 3.5million sold in it’s first year.
1958 - The famous Parker Arrow Clip becomes Parker’s official emblem.
1962 - Royal Warrant awarded to Parker by Queen Elizabeth ll, becoming official supplier of writing instruments to the Royal Household.
1972 - To commemorate the American moon landing a special edition Parker 75 was made.
1981 - In honour of the Royal wedding of Charles & Diana, a special edition of the Parker 105 was made.
1987 - The intermediate Nuclear Arms Treaty was signed by American President Ronald Reagan and soviet secretary Mikhail Gorbachev using a Parker 75.
1990 - A second Royal Warrant awarded by the Prince of Wales.
1993 - The first version of the Sonnet appears continuing the “ CISELE “ pattern.
