Trumpeter 1/350 scale: HMS Abercrombie Monitor. #05336

HMS Abercrombie was a British monitor from World War II. The keel for this unit was laid in 1941, the launch took place in March 1942 and the commissioning took place in May 1943. The total length of the ship was 113.8 meters and a width of 27.4 meters. The full displacement reached about 9,800 tons, and the maximum speed - about 12-13 knots. The ship's armament included: two 381 mm guns, 8 102 mm guns and 20 20 mm anti-aircraft guns.

HMS Abercrombie was built at the Vickers Armstrong shipyard in Newcastle upon Tyne and used the main artillery originally planned for the line cruiser HMS Furious. The device saw limited use during World War II. Shortly after entering service, she was sent to the Mediterranean, where she supported the Allied landings in Sicily in July 1943 and shortly afterwards the landings at Salerno, where HMS Abercrombie was damaged by a sea mine. It was repaired until October 1943 and later the ship was headed to Malta. But here too the monitor was damaged again by sea mines in August 1944. In 1945, HMS Abercrombie was sent to the Pacific after necessary repairs, but did not take part in the activities in the Far East due to the surrender of Japan. In 1945-1954 the unit served as a training ship and was decommissioned in 1954.
