Small container for storing incense during the tea ceremony – kogo – in the shape of a mokugyo, a wooden gong used in Buddhist ceremonies. 

Whitish, fine stoneware covered with a thin yellowish glaze with speckles. Splashes of green glaze on top of the handle of the mokugyo. Seto region, Oribe ware.

 

Oval seal impressed in the inside of the cover of the box, illegible.
