This is a 7 1/2" x 5 1/4" x 1 1/8" hardcover book with navy blue cloth and gold gilt lettering a designs.  It has 435 pages with 21 chapters that tell the story of the Civil War from raising volunteers in Indiana to the assassination of President Lincoln and Uncle Daniel's death.  

The author is listed as "An Officer of the Union Army".  The author is unknown but was thought to have been John McElroy or Senator John Logan or other Logan family members.  According to the author this is "A truthful picture, in story, based upon events of the late war."
