Silver Rose/Holy Water Sprinkler

Ottoman Empire Late XIX Century

Dear customer, I am offering the original Rose/Holy water sprinkler (Gülabdar) made from solid silver.
This sprinkler is of Ottoman origin from the late 19th century, in the shape of a fruit, with a fluted spherical body surrounded with relief branches of roses.
Тhe pedestal is formed by six chiseled leaves, surrounded by a leafy wreath. Beautiful work of art in sterling silver with chiselled windings.
Rose water is obtained by distilling rose petals, a process invented by the Arab alchemist Jabir Ibn Hayyan (1721 - 1815).
The difference with European rose water (Eau de cologne) is that this rose water does not contain alcohol and could be used by the Muslim population without any problems.
Christians also use this vessel for sprinkling Holy Water during domestic religious processions.
