Medal "For the Defense of Odessa"
The medal was established by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of December 22, 1942. A partial addition to the Regulations on the medal was made by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 19, 1943. The awarding of medals is carried out on behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on the basis of documents certifying the actual participation in the defense of Odessa, issued by the commanders of units, the heads of military medical institutions and the corresponding regional and city Soviets of Working People's Deputies.

persons who are in the military units of the Red Army, the Navy and NKVD troops, commanders of military units, and persons who left the army and navy - regional, city and district military commissars at the place of residence of the recipients;
persons from the civilian population - participants in the defense of Odessa - by the regional and city Soviets of Working People's Deputies at the place of residence of the recipients.
The medal "For the defense of Odessa" is worn on the left side of the chest and in the presence of other medals the USSR is located after the medal "For the Defense of Moscow".
Description of the medal.
The medal "For the Defense of Odessa" is made of brass and has the form of a regular circle with a diameter of 32 mm.
On the front side of the medal, against the backdrop of the outlines of the sea shore and the lighthouse, depicts the figures of the Red Army man and the red-fleet with rifles at the ready. Above the figures are the inscription "USSR". On the circumference of the coin, in the upper part of it, is the inscription "FOR THE DEFENSE OF ODESSA". At the beginning and at the end of the inscription are small five-pointed stars. At the bottom of the medal is a laurel wreath, twisted at the beginning of the branches with a ribbon with a five-pointed star on it. The front side of the coin is bordered by a convex rim.
On the reverse side of the coin is the inscription "FOR OUR SOVIET HERITAGE". Above the inscription are a sickle and a hammer.
All inscriptions and images on the medal are convex.
The medal with the ear and ring is connected to a pentagonal kolodochka, covered with a silk moiré band of olive color with a longitudinal blue stripe in the middle. The width of the tape is 24 mm, the width of the strip is 2 mm.
History of the medal.
The People's Commissariat of Defense of the USSR was the initiator of the establishment of medals for the defense of Odessa, Sevastopol, Leningrad and Stalingrad in October 1942. November 24, 1942 Stalin was instructed to begin developing drawings of these medals.
The author of the medal drawing is the artist Moskalev N.I.
Originally, it was planned to make a stainless steel medal, however, by Decree of March 27, 1943, brass was approved for the material of the medal.

Медаль учреждена Указом Президиума Верховного Совета СССР от 22 декабря 1942 года. Частичное дополнение Положения о медали произведено Указом Президиума Верховного Совета СССР от 19 июня 1943 года. Медалью “За оборону Одессы” награждаются все участники обороны Одессы - военнослужащие Красной Армии, Военно-Морского Флота и войск НКВД, а также лица из гражданского населения, принимавшие непосредственное участие в обороне. Периодом обороны Одессы считается 10 августа - 16 октября 1941 года.
Вручение медалей производится от имени Президиума Верховного Совета СССР на основании документов, удостоверяющих фактическое участие в обороне Одессы, выдаваемых командирами частей, начальниками военно-лечебных заведений и соответствующими областными и городскими Советами депутатов трудящихся.

Медаль “За оборону Одессы” носится на левой стороне груди и при наличии других медалей СССР располагается после медали “За оборону Москвы” [2].
Описание медали.
Медаль “За оборону Одессы” выполнена из латуни и имеет форму правильного круга диаметром 32 мм.
На лицевой стороне медали, на фоне очертаний морского берега и маяка, изображены фигуры красноармейца и краснофлотца с винтовками наперевес. Над фигурами надпись “СССР”. По окружности медали, в верхней ее части, надпись “ЗА ОБОРОНУ ОДЕССЫ”. В начале и в конце надписи маленькие пятиконечные звездочки. В нижней части медали - лавровый венок, перевитый у начала ветвей ленточкой с пятиконечной звездой на ней. Лицевая сторона медали окаймлена выпуклым бортиком.
На оборотной стороне медали надпись “ЗА НАШУ СОВЕТСКУЮ РОДИНУ”. Над надписью изображены серп и молот.
Все надписи и изображения на медали выпуклые.
Медаль при помощи ушка и кольца соединяется с пятиугольной колодочкой, обтянутой шелковой муаровой лентой оливкового цвета с продольной голубой полоской посередине. Ширина ленты 24 мм, ширина полоски - 2 мм [2].
История медали.
Инициатором учреждения медалей за оборону Одессы, Севастополя, Ленинграда и Сталинграда в октябре 1942 года выступил Наркомат обороны СССР. 24 ноября 1942 года Сталиным было дано указание приступить к разработке рисунков этих медалей.

Первоначально планировалось изготавливать медаль из нержавеющей стали, однако, Указом от 27 марта 1943 года, материалом изготовления медали была утверждена латунь.

Die Verordnung über die Medaille wurde durch das Dekret des Präsidiums des Obersten Sowjets der UdSSR vom 19. Juni 1943 teilweise ergänzt. Darüber hinaus wurde die Beschreibung der Medaille durch Dekrete des Präsidiums des Obersten Sowjets der UdSSR vom 27. März und 3. Mai 1943 geändert.

Beschreibung der Medaille.
Medaille „Für Verteidigung Odessa“ ist aus Messing gefertigt und hat eine Form eines regelmäßigen Kreis mit einem Durchmesser von 32 mm.
Auf der Vorderseite der Münze, auf dem Hintergrund des Umrisses des Strandes und den Leuchtturm, Figuren Rote Armee und Marine mit Gewehren im Anschlag zeigt. Über den Zahlen befindet sich die Aufschrift "UdSSR". Auf dem Umfang der Münze, in seinem oberen Teil die Aufschrift „für die Verteidigung von Odessa“. Am Anfang und am Ende der Inschrift sind kleine fünfzackige Sterne. Am unteren Rand der Münze - Lorbeerkranz mit einem Band umschlungen am Anfang der Zweige mit fünfzackigen Stern auf ihm. Die Vorderseite der Münze ist von einem konvexen Rand umgeben.
Auf der Rückseite der Medaille befindet sich die Inschrift "FÜR UNSER SOWJET-ERBE". Über der Inschrift sind eine Sichel und ein Hammer.
Alle Inschriften und Bilder auf der Medaille sind konvex.
Medaille mit Hilfe von Ohrringen und verbindet sich mit dem Fünfeck Kolodochka, bedeckt mit Seide Moire Band aus Olivfarbe mit Längs blauen Streifen in der Mitte. Die Breite des Bandes beträgt 24 mm, die Breite des Bandes beträgt 2 mm [2].
Geschichte der Medaille.
