This vintage Japanese Uchikake ceremonial wedding kimono features a heavily embroidered design of cranes (tsuru) leaping into flight from a pretty flow of water and waves (seigaiha) at the hem. Metallic threads of silver and gold catch the light, making the design stand out, yet the design flows nicely from bottom to top, creating a story all the way around. A thickly padded hem of red encircles the bottom.

This is contemporary vintage (circa 1960-80) and likely to be a former rental. It has signs of use and spots of wear and a repair; some hasty, wide set stitches presumably for temporary tailoring, which should come out easily. It will need to be repaired and professionally cleaned to be display ready.
