SEIKO  6105-8110 (a.k.a CAPTAIN WILLARD) SECOND GENERATION VINTAGE DIVER WATCH

BACKGROUND HISTORY:

The venerable SEIKO 6105-8110 had been produced only in Japan from 1970-1977. This model was only specially produced for Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) and never sold to global market. SEIKO 6105-8110 was often referred to SEIKO third generation professional diver watch after the first generation diver of SEIKO 6217-8000 and second generation diver of SEIKO 6105-8000, which designed in slimmer cushion type case. Compared to its elder brother, SEIKO 6105-8110 has a unique and funky large chunk of stainless-steel case.

This current example of SEIKO 6105-8110 was produced in 1976 that has "Water 150m resist" on the dial with 'Water Resistant' engraving on the back. It has distinctive asymmetrical cushion shape case design with crown at 4:00. This diver model is highly recognized among Seiko collectors and one of the most iconic designs of SEIKO diver watch.

SEIKO 6105-8110 featured "Turn and Lock" mechanism that is very unique design to this model. It was designed to lock and prevent the crown from easily turning in which aimed to achieve better water resistant. In 1970s era, SEIKO 6105 was often compared with Swiss timepieces from Omega and Rolex Divers due to the solid build and design, movement quality, and finishing, which was definitely on par with those high-end divers of the same period.  It was also a very popular choice of watch used by US Military Soldiers especially in the Vietnam War era, which being chosen due to strong built and reliable performance plus quality.

Because of the very short production time and mostly used during war era as a practical tool watch, SEIKO 6105-8110 Diver that come in very good and fully original condition is extremely difficult to obtain nowadays, hence highly sought by many collectors. Most of the watch has a lot issue with the dial especially on the hour markers luminous plot due to the material that turned blackish when exposed to moisture intrusion and water condensation.

The current example here still comes with the original New Old Stock Seiko 6105 box, which is very rare available nowadays. It is the perfect suit that complements this timepiece and best choice to grab for vintage SEIKO Collectors.

WHY THIS WATCH & DETAILS

SEIKO 6105-8110 was one of the most iconic SEIKO diver timepieces in 1970s that not only become the choice of US military soldiers but also being chosen to be watch in the famous Hollywood movie "Apocalypse" worn by "Captain Willard" hence this watch being nicknamed as "SEIKO 6105-8110 Captain Willard".

The funky asymmetrical design case constructed by large chunk of stainless steel and equipped with bidirectional bezel on top of very thick dome Hardlex crystal, and specially designed "Turn and Lock" crown, are all the elements of professional use divers tool. Being chosen by soldiers and divers in the past was not strange and no no-sense. Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to get one in the completely original condition; hence it is the good chance now for SEIKO watch enthusiast to grab and add it into their collections.

There is no such thing as a perfect for over 45 years old pre-owned watch. The most important part is the condition is 100% genuine. The square style lumed markers are very clean and resemble "Snowish" white color. The strong built stainless steel case still maintains the sharpness of original polishing. Inside is the venerable SEIKO 6105B caliber, which is popular to be durable and stable. It is totally a rare vintage tool watch in fantastic condition.

Dial : 

Genuine SEIKO 6105 Matte Black Dial is in very good condition and remains 'Unmolested or Untouched' (No Re-Dial, Re-Condition, or Re-Lume). Snow white color luminous plot on the chrome hour markers does not glow. The condition is pretty clean and in beautiful state The dial notation consist of "SEIKO Automatic" along with "Water 150m resist" text that match "Water Resistant" engraving on the case back. Hand Sets : 

SEIKO 6105-8110 genuine Hand Sets contain matching luminous color with hour markers on the dial remains "Unmolested or Untouched" (No Re-condition or Re-lume). Second hand with the unique traffic light "Stop Light" style is in super good condition and the pale reddish color luminous on the second hand hole is still very clear and clean. Bezel : 

Bezel and Insert are genuine SEIKO 6105-8110 and working perfectly. Bezel Insert is in good state with some light scratches due to the usage and age in the past, however the overall condition is very good and preserved very well.  Bezel rotation is bidirectional and turns very smooth as well. The silver anodized paint numbers are still very clear and crisp despite the age. The anodized effect on silver bezel paint is only available on genuine SEIKO bezel insert. Movement :

Original SEIKO 6105B Automatic Movement that has 17 jewels and beating at 21600 BPH. The movement has hack-able second hand function, but not hand-wind able. All of the function has been tested to working well and running smoothly even though it has been ticking for over 45 years.

Case : 

The case was designed in Asymmetrical shape and made from solid chunk of stainless steel with no rust found on the case and case back. Condition is very good with some scratches and very light nick on some part of the case due to usage in the past. Note: We didn't perform any polishing on the case in order to keep the original condition and at the same time preserving the look and feel of vintage watch. Crystal : 

Original Seiko Hardlex Dome Crystal, but with some very light scratches seen. The condition is very good for such a vintage timepiece. The crystal is super thick and flat externally, but it is designed to be "Dome" internally. The use of such thick crystal was intended to tell us that SEIKO really designed the watch purposely to be strong and robust diver watch.  To add on, the dome crystal effect makes the dial of the watch looks truly work of arts. Crown : 

Screwed Down crown with 'Turn & Lock' function is the most unique function of this watch.  It will lock into the pin and prevent the crown from turning. Currently, the crown functionality of this watch has been tested and working well.

Strap :

Seiko 6105-8110 in this example come with Brand New Original Seiko Diver Strap, DAL3AB19. It is a 19mm strap that designed specially for diver watch, which is robust and durable.

Functions :

Time and Date Indicator display. Seiko 6105B is an automatic caliber with quick-set date feature and hack-able, but non hand wind-able. Currently, the movement inside the watch is working well.
