THIS BOOK WAS PRINTED IN 1889 FOR THE YEAR 1890 BY THE D. LOTHROP COMPANY. THE BOOK IS COMPLETE WITH SOME CONDITION ISSUES. PLEASE READ FULL DESCRIPTION

There has been restoration done to this very rare book. It is complete with 128 pages and end papers. There is a penciled inscription on the front end paper (Photo 11) and no other writing noted.

This is a great little book filled with steel engravings, poems, stories and puzzles. The interior has four color illustrations, with three signed AWA. Other illustrators include Louis Wain and his cats (photo 7), Almira George Plympton, Max Lebling, Edith Scannell, Dorothy Tennant, L.J Bridgman and others.

CONDITION: The book currently has a linen tape spine cover. I believe it always had a cloth spine cover but this is not the original one. There is HEAVY wear to the edges and corners of the boards with loss of the surface paper and exposed bare cardboard on the edges (photo 10). The book measures 8" x 10". There are a small number of pages with short nicks or edge tears (I found 3) and (photo 9) is the worst of them. There is paper toning throughout. There is the occasional smudgy fingerprint, plenty of handling creases, corner bumps and overall paper toning. There is wear in the paper between the boards and end papers (front and rear) as shown in (photo 11 & 12). The book opens comfortably to about 100 degrees but I would recommend against ever just laying it open flat as I don't think the spine would respond enthusiastically. Only the rear cover appears to be unwilling to open past 90 degrees (photo 12) with the paper in the gutter between the rear board and rear end paper showing stress at that point.

OVERALL CONDITION IS BASICALLY "ACCEPTABLE" BECAUSE IT IS STABLE BUT CAN BE FAIRLY EASILY DAMAGED IF MISTREATED AT ALL.

Finding an actual hardcover copy of this book is basically impossible. Even the library copies throughout the Country tend to be missing pages.

MEDIA MAIL: The USPS allows books, records and other media to be mailed at a cheaper price than typical mail. It tends to be a much slower mailing process than standard mail. In addition, any employee of the USPS can open the package at ANY time for ANY reason to verify that what is inside is what should be inside. In most cases, the item is properly repackaged but, in rare cases, it is not and an item can arrive damaged. As my feedback suggests, I package very carefully. If you receive a damaged item that has the appearance of having been poorly packaged, please contact me prior to leaving feedback so that it can be addressed.
