Vitellius, copper As, 69 A.D., Sear (2000 ed.) 2219, R.I.C. 46, 27 mm diameter, 12.7 gms. The obverse shows a laureate bust of Vitellius to the left. The obverse legend shows " A. VITELLIUS IMP. GERMAN.". The reverse shows Victoria advancing left, holding a shield inscribed "S P Q R ". The reverse legend shows "VICTORIA AUGUSTI S C ". Both sides are primarily dark brown toned. The obverse shows a great, strong, highly detailed portrait of Vitellius, with nice surfaces. The reverse shows some pitting primarily to the right of the figure, but with a little scattered near the edge. Vitellius only remained in power for approx. eight months. This piece was from the Tarraco mint, Jan.-Jul 69 A.D. This is a genuine original coin, not a copy, replica, or reproduction. EX.
