FOR SALE: OPNsense 10 Gb + 1 Gb router/firewall on Dell Optiplex 5040 hardware.

The device is a small form factor PC repurposed to work as a router and firewall. Network connectivity is as follows:

• One built-in Gigabit port (Intel i219-V)
• Four Gigabit ports on an Intel i350 add-on card
• Two 10-Gigabit ports on a Mellanox ConnectX-3 Pro add-on card (these ports require SFP or SFP+ cartridges to work; the cartridges are not included with the device)

To test the device, we made a few changes to the initial OPNsense configuration. A detailed configuration note will be provided to the buyer. Briefly, the ports on the Mellanox card have been designated LAN and WAN; the single built-in port has been set up to work as a management port; the four ports on the i350 card have not been configured beyond interface assignment. (Needless to say, all these settings are changeable.)

The device runs on an Intel Core i5-6500 processor (four cores, 3.2 GHz base frequency, 3.6 GHz turbo frequency) with 8 GB of RAM and a 120 GB SSD. The processor supports AES-NI crypto.

The device is actively cooled. Under normal operating conditions, the fan is whisper-quiet.

In our estimation, this device is best used in situations involving complex networks and computationally intensive workloads, such as VPN or IDS/IPS.

The device is in good physical condition (please review the photos). There is some light scratching on the case consistent with normal use. A power cable, although not shown in photos, will be included with the device.
