Devil and Pitchfork Fancy Cancel Double struck with scott #65's from West Meriden, Connecticut dated June 4th and tied to a blue legal cover to Brooksvale Connecticut. The Devil and pitchfork cancels were first used April 16th 1866 with the latest date being August 31st 1866. Only 5 months of use. This example of the rare cancel is complete and is very clear. As the cancel was used more, it became worn and less distinct. Being tied with 2 strikes on cover 65's is most unusual as many were used with just one stamp and often the cancel off cover was not complete as this particular example.
