Description
This very big, one of a kind and breathtaking antique Mughal Indian votive temple eight sided plaque is made of silvered and gilt brass and shows an incredible scene in high repousse work with a fantastic four-armed Kali, the goddess of Mother Nature and Death at the center with feather-decorated high hair wearing a tall multi-tiered head dress and floral decorated robes holding flowers in her hands surrounded by animals including elephants and lions attacking deer, very unusually each animal and Kali has been decorated with high bezel set glowing green malachite cabochons, every remaining square inch of the plaque is covered in beautiful scrolling gilt repousse flowers and leaves with all the spaces between unbelievably filled with thousands and thousands of hand hammered punch decorations-extraordinary! The reverse has later added soldered on loops and a chain for wall hanging.
The plaque measures approximately 30 inches across.
The plaque is in general very good condition with all over wear including gilt wear and loss to the entire piece. There is an old copper and gilded solder repair to a 5 inch split coming off one edge, otherwise no further damage or repairs. Please check all the pictures.
