MID-20TH CENTURY LATIN AMERICAN (LIKELY MEXICAN or PERUVIAN) VINTAGE, CIRCA MID-1950'S to MID 1970'S, MODERNIST SIGNED, HAND WOVEN, HANGING WOOL WALL TAPESTRY, featuring GRAPHIC ICONOGRAPHY
with TWO TREES of LIFE BEARING FRUIT & HEARTS with TIED FRINGE ENDS
[Great mid-century vintage graphic iconography! This hand-woven, 100% wool, vintage Modernist wall hanging or decorative tapestry, is signed 'Jaragos' in colored wool thread on the lower right corner. The wool wall hanging hasn't been washed with either Woolite in cold water or dry-cleaned. It remains as it was found in the estate it was removed from. There are only a few minor, slightly darker, soiled areas of the creamy white wool field. This is clearly dirt & not some kind of other stain or discoloration. The wonderful graphic iconography features three trees, seeming to intermingle, as would human figures. The left & right trees bear fruit on their limbs, while the middle tree bears hearts, as metaphorical 'fruit.' This visual poetry invokes various themes, such as human love bearing the fruits of joy, as well as human fulfillment & the all spoils of this transformative emotional & psychological state. The trees are realized in brown wool thread, with green leaves & red hearts & orange fruit, all hand sewn onto a creamy white field. There's no edge loss, tears, repairs (old or new) or holes, caused from insect larvae damage. What's hanging over your sofa or behind the headboard of your bed? The wool wall hanging could easily be outfitted with & hung from a wooden dowel for wall display. Very nice.]
