The Gatherer by R.W.Twinney b.1943
A rare chance to own an original early etching by the renown cornish artist Dick Twinney (R.W.Twinney)
Dick still lives in St Columb in Souther cornwall, where he is a highly regarded and favourite son (although born across the border in Devon) he writes and illustrates these days is a conservationist and has been subsequently adopted by Cornwall.
This piece is over 40 years old and when Dick was embarking on his career he would be asked to do a fair amout of illustrative work, for publishers both here in the UK and also America where word of his talent had circulated and he became much in demand, I believe this is one such commision piece. A Tall ship or Clipper which is very well detailed (see photos) titled 'The Gatherer' Dick has captured her under full sail slicing through the stormy seas.
Its beautifully presented, the copper plate has been mounted on a lovely grained piece of teak veneer, framed in Black to match the black plate its a very good job by the framer.
The plate measuers - 42cm x 20cm
Overall Dimensions - 58cm x 36cm
The condition is fine, i can see no damage on the plate, as is the way the frame has a few knocks and scratches but nothing of specific note, the rear of the frame is secure and has hook and eye fixings either side and some stringing to aid hanging.
