Certificate Description

18__ Tioga RR Stock Certificate. Attractive scripophily certificate with woodcut vignette of early open cab steam locomotive pulling single passenger car. Historic railroad that traces its lineage back to 1826 when incorporated as the Tioga Navigation Co. Its commercial purpose was to transport coal from mines near Blossburg Pa in Tioga county north to the state line, a distance of roughly 26 mi. This line was completed in 1840. This company was reorganized as the Tioga RR in 1851. It was taken over in 1882 by the New York Lake Erie & Western RR, which eventually became part of the Erie RR system. EF condition.
