SCARCE EARLY 20TH CENTURY ANTIQUE INDIAN BRONZE SHIVA & CONSORT in SEXUAL UNION, BUDDHA SHAKTI POWER, TANTRIC FIGURATIVE METAL SCULPTURE, with ORIGINAL, UNPOLISHED BRONZE PATINA & RETICULATED, DECORATIVE BRONZE BASE
[Recently discovered in a South Shore, Massachusetts estate featuring many other period Indian bronze figurative sculptures, textiles & painted wooden architectural elements. This early 20th century antique Indian bronze metal figurative sculpture of a Shiva & consort in tantric, sexual union, highlighting Buddha Shakti power, is more finely detailed & realized than many similar, later versions. The figurative detailing and especially the reticulated bronze base show earlier, more careful workmanship. The Shiva diety is sitting with his legs nearly impossibly crossed, with the heels of his feet, placed tightly on top of his thighs, embracing his female consort and partner closely as she mounts him, in a particularly physical form of sexual union between the two & in a rather noticeable tantric sexual position. Of course, within Hinduism, every bronze figurative statuary of gods & goddesses has spiritual, as well as ritualistic meaning embedded in them. This particular Shiva bronze figurative metal sculpture, involving two figures, points to enduring love, fertility & the fruits love & physical love bear. With original antique bronze patina. Very nice.]
