Up for sale here is a 3D printed "longhorn" phono cartridge stabilizer for your vinyl turntable. What does a longhorn phono cartridge stabilizer do? It helps focus the energy from the stylus to the cartridge, bringing out more sound detail. These phono cartridge stabilizers are made of non-magnetic plastic (PLA), so you don't need to worry about interference with your cartridge. The original concept of a "longhorn" phono cartridge stabilizer was developed by Frank Van Alstein and described in an issue of the Audio Basics newsletter (1982, Volume 1, Number 1, pages 8-9).

This is a snap on phono cartridge stabilizer that is held in place by friction - you do not need to glue anything to your cartridge and it's just as easy to remove as it is to install. Also, your cartridge will be perfectly in the middle of the stabilizers for perfect balance.

The advantage of this phono cartridge stabilizer is that it can be snapped on and snapped off (no gluing, and a non-permanent installation). However, if you would like to permanently attach this to your cartridge, you are certainly able to do so with some epoxy or glue.

This listing is for a Grado Prestige 3 series phono cartridge stabilizer.

My plan is to make these stabilizers for other popular cartridges, but as of now I can only make the stabilizers for the cartridges I have on hand to ensure a proper fit.

For testing, I recorded Elenore by the Turtles with my stock VM95ML cartridge at 1.8 grams, then again with my VM95ML with the stabilizer at 1.8 grams. The increase in gain was approximately 1dB with the stabilizer compared to the stock VML95ML, as shown in the pictures. The actual increase may vary depending on your system setup and the songs you're measuring/listening to.

Please note that you may have issues with using a record weight with a longhorn phono cartridge stabilizer, but it should not touch the center spindle of your turntable.

Each order will receive one (1) longhorn phono cartridge stabilizer. The weight of each stabilizer is approximately 1.7 grams, so you will need to adjust your tracking force after installation.
