The Egrets of South Beach are a term I've coined about these delightful birds...as well as Swirling Egrets...a namesake that comes from my years crawling through Miami Beach hotels...where I have never seen more egret draperies that what was coming out of the South Beach hotels. Now South Beach has such a great history of Art Deco that took the world by storm in the 20's 30's and mid century...and again for a huge renaissance in the late 90's and 2000's...but few remember South Beach of the 80's...it was the height of AIDS...and I can remember driving my jeep down Collins Ave and there was the Miami Beach Board of Health...a tiny little building nestled between two huge abandoned and boarded up hotels...each year I'd return one by one the hotels around it disappeared leaving a run down government building with gay men lined up outside in what was a huge gay panic there. It was unforgettable...these memories etched between the thrill and excitement of going into a abandoned hotel...crawling over addicts sleeping in hallways and often times wielding a gun...demanding cash for entry...my heart would be beating a mile a minute...me an addict of textile degree...not too far off from putting myself in the same danger as those shooting crack. My addiction? Old cotton...swank prints of tropicals and radiating birds...the egrets always take me back to walking the halls...discovering treasures and that heart in my throat that was intoxicating...dangerous and so damned fun.

This offering is for ONE ready to hang drapery panel...I have another one also for sale just like it...sold individually...as you know when it comes to rare there is no comparison...this particular pattern design of Egrets is more collectible than the rest...definitely something that barely ever comes around and depending on who has the cash to spend at the instant an auction is ending...can go for hundreds or thousands...although the 90s would be the best reference as that is the last time these iconic prints hit the auctions regularly. A thick and nubby textured barkcloth...a creamy electric minty chartreuse lime ground...aqua blue greens the color of an old Miami Beach pool...celadon lime...coral pinks...airy dove grays...pink raspberry red with white accents. Measures 33 inches wide x 80 inches long with a very large rod pocket at the top that could be dismantled and made longer with use of ring clips. I'd line these in white...black out lining...it would make them appear much more colorful as that is the magic of black out and barkcloth. No holes...wear or imperfections...for anyone who knows this stuff...then you know rare rare rare and one for the books!

I take returns...but who wants to take a return right? So I do my best to add lots of photos that depict the weight and texture and do so thoughtfully so you are getting the most virtual experience. Please only buy if you know you really want it...in other words...I'm here to have the best selling experience and I can't do that without your help. With that said...of course I will take a return...I'm just hoping more the pricing will WOW YA over wanting to return it :) Here is to a summer of fabulous Florida Finds. :)
