Folio, 15" by 11 3/4". 343 numbered pages. Maroon leather with vellum on spine. The maroon leather on the front and back panels are separated from the vellum by a vertical gilt edge/border. Gilt stamped lettering on front panel; gilt lettering and Scottish decor on spine. Upper page edges are gilt. "Three hundred and twenty copies only of the large paper edition of this work have been printed for sale of which twenty copies are on Japanese vellum throughout. This copy is number twenty and has been printed for..."
24 full page plates and a total of 437 figures. Boards are scuffed and with light scratches and small faint stains; vellum is soiled. There is a 2" section on the back panel where the leather is gapping from the gilt edging between it and the vellum on spine - see photo. Fore-edge corners are scuffed and with tips rubbed-through.  External side and lower page edges are age-darkened.  End-papers are yellow patterned with griffins and have faint mottling but not foxing.  Age-toning to inside page edges, else internally clean.  Text block is sound.
