Camphor has only been used in recent times in guitar making but it has great potential for both acoustic and electric guitars. It has a good sound that's somewhere between Mahogany and European Maple. The look is distinct and beautiful with bold streaks of red contrasted against a light background.

It's economical and locally sourced. The logs used are from trees cut down for other reasons such as wind damage or clearing for building works, making it more environmentally friendly than imported rain forest species.

The wood has a very characteristic scent, that makes it a pleasure to work with. It has a medium texture with a high natural luster and a slightly greasy feel. Its moderate density makes it easy to shape and machine with minimal effort. It glues and finishes well.
