These nuts are our nicest organically grown, in-shell English walnuts, harvested from our orchard in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, USA, in October-December of 2023, and gradually air-dried at room temperature.  They are 'live food' (you could plant them).  These are mostly the heirloom Franquette variety, esteemed as the "Noix du Perigord" in France for over 300 years.  Our walnuts have nutmeats with a light color (see photo of cracked nuts) and loyal customers agree with us that they have a rich, sweet taste.  The shells are easy to crack with a simple hand-held squeezer.  We use no chemicals in the orchard: not on trees, soil or nuts.  No pesticides, no fungicides, no bleach, no ripening hormones, no fumigants.  We 'shake late' for full ripeness and flavor.  Our large trees were planted decades before GMO crops even existed.  We do not irrigate; the trees live on rainfall and snow, mountain soil, fresh air, sunlight, and some organic nutrients.  Everything we do, except mowing, is done by hand.  While taste is very personal, we think the above elements are likely to help to create a superior flavor.  Fresher walnuts don't exist.

This item is sold as a Large-Long Flat Rate box filled to the brim with 13 lbs. of nuts, ready to store or crack and enjoy.  These are "gift box" grade walnuts, with nice looking unbleached shells.  We ship our walnuts in the shell because they stay freshest-longest that way.  We inspect and sort them but we can't see inside the shell, so a few imperfect nuts may slip through; we try (if there is room) to add some extra nuts to each box, just in case.  Freezer storage is recommended.

In stores, our walnuts have sold for $5.79 and up; we've seen similar in-store nuts priced at $8.00-$8.29 / lb.  Our price on ebay, with home delivery to your door, is a good deal at $3.00 / lb. (plus shipping cost, included in listed price).  Besides being delicious and nutritious, there is considerable evidence that walnuts may contribute to health.  They are a rich source of
protein, omega fatty acids and antioxidants.  Feel free to search the Internet for good, carefully-done studies on the  properties of walnuts.

For several years, we sold out our crop on ebay in 4 months (by May).  Unfortunately, severe mountain weather took out our crops in 2021 and 2022, and we did not sell online.  Welcome to farming!  Good weather brought us a good crop in 2023, which we are able to offer to you now.  Please plan ahead for any spring and summer needs.  Enjoy the  season -- crack some nuts with family or friends -- with best wishes from the Hundred Years Orchard!
