About the author:

Franklyn Branley was Astronomer Emeritus and former Chairman of the American Museum-Hayden Planeterium. In 1960, he originated the Let’s–Read–and–Find–Out Science series, dedicated to explaining science to young children and encouraging them to explore their world. Dr. Branley is the author of over 150 science books for children.

Prior to the January 1986 fly-by of Voyager II, astronomers knew only what information could be derived from dim and far-away optical telescope photographs. Data sent back to Earth from Voyager II rendered many theories about Uranus obsolete. Black-and-white Voyager II photographs show details of the surfaces of Uranus and her satellites. Black-and-white line drawings are used to illustrate explanations, and a color photo insert is also included.

I latched onto this book when I was a child. It was in my Dad's bookshelf and always intrigued me. Every decade or so, I pull it out to see what things have taken place and which were totally off the wall. A good chuckle, either way!
