ANTIQUE EDWARDIAN CERTIFIED NATURAL PEARL NECKLACE

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Very rarely do we see natural pearls, as many pearls on the market today have an internal bead which is part of the 'cultured' process, (aka cultured pearls). However, all of these pearls are of natural growth and not assisted in the oyster shell by a human. All the pearls in the strand have been examined with direct x ray radiography which is the only sure scientific way to confirm natural internal growth.

A rare and lustrous strand of natural pearls from the Edwardian era - early 1900's! The pearl necklace consists of 144 natural saltwater pearls graduating in size from 2.02mm at the back to 5.08mm at the front. Overall, the pearls are extremely well-matched in their creamy white colour and semi-round to oval shape. Furthermore, each pearl radiates with a beautiful surface luster and the majority are free from skin blemishes.

The pearl necklace is hand strung with knots straight onto the original 14ct yellow and white gold sapphire and diamond clasp. Adding further antiquity charm is a hand engraved flower pattern decorating the sides and bottom of the box clasp. The tongue is yellow gold and box component is white gold. A safety chain with spring clasp is attached for further security whilst wearing (a typical safety attachment of the era).

*Accompanying the natural pearl necklace is an authentication certificate carried out by the Australian Gem Identification Laboratory (GSL).

The pearl necklace sits at an elegant princess length of 47cm (18 1/2") on the neckline.

Certified natural pearls have steadily increased in value over the years and (in our opinion) are an investment. Of course, the pearls would also make a luxury necklace for their organic beauty and rarity!

The antique pearl necklace is in excellent condition. The string itself retains a firmness (it has not been recently strung), albeit there is no fraying, or looseness in between the pearls, hence why we have left as is. The clasps work very well with good tension. A stunning pearl necklace!
