Hello and welcome to the house of Chrome.

You are looking at a classic Electro Voice 731 model dynamic cardioid microphone made in the 1950's that was E.V's shining star. The sheer size of the 725, 726 & 731 model would make one think it's a ribbon microphone but it's not. E.V was trying to compete with the very popular Shure 55 model mic at that time and the 725 was the fist of of a few variants to do just that. The 731 was the last of the variants and had the revolutionary XLR attachment doing away with the typical screw on mic cable.

Pic # 2 shows this very 731 model mic and it's basic characteristics. Pic # 3 shows a woman using this spectacular model giving you an idea of it's sheer size.

It should be noted that the mic does produce a working signal with an original element set at Low impedance but it has a weak working element rated at around 30% which is pretty common for many of these old 731 model mics. I do have two good working examples for sale but this particular mic should be used for display, prop or repair purposes only. These happen to make excellent L.E.D lamps as well.

This mic does not come with the stand shown but it will screw onto any desk or floor stand you happen to have.

The mic came with a uni directional dynamic cardioid element that was pretty state of the art for it's time and was a fairly expensive microphone in the E.V line up. This mic was intended to be used for singing and general broadcasting purposes.

As seen in the pics provided the microphone has a typical wear with just a fey tiny scratches and scuff marks. Some lite pitting here and there but zero dents or fractures and a decent example overall. The black silk screens are are evenly colored but there are a few small holes and rips. The on / off switch slides smoothly and the E.V label looks very good. This 731 microphone has a decent luster on the chrome still.

The joint mechanism offers plenty of firm resistance to keep this heavy microphone at just the right angle needed. The threads for both the stand and cable are perfect. This 731 is much rarer than the 726 model due to it's more expensive asking price at the time.

It's going to grab plenty of attention anywhere it's displayed in the home, office, studio or Man cave. This mic is a solid 6 + on a scale of 1 - 10 in the cosmetic department.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...

If you need an older stand to compliment this mic I do have several for sale in my online store.
