This 1967 Ford XR Fairmont in its original colour of Sage Gold is a classic sedan with a powerful 289 V8 engine and automatic transmission. It has a clear title and can seat up to 5 people with its black and white interior and 4 doors.

My dad purchased this car off the original first owner in 1968 when it was 8 months old, and it was my mums daily driver until around 1994, when it passed down to me.


 The XR has sat in my shed for the last 23years, only being started and driven around the property intermittently during that time. The engine blew up and was removed and rebuilt by Cavehill Engines in approx 1998, it was then reinstalled in the XR and was driven by me for no more than 8000 kms before being retired to the shed in 2001 because it seems that I was viewed as a dickhead by the local fuzz and they gave me a yellow canary. 

 The column shift cruise-a-matic auto trans was also removed and rebuilt by Warburton Automatics at the same time as the engine so it has also only done under 8000 kms before retirement.

The car is in pretty original condition and presents as it came out from the factory, it has a black vinyl roof which was renewed in the mid 1990s when the car had its last respray in the same original sage gold colour, which to my eye is a greenish-silvery colour. 


The interior is mostly original too except for the carpet and the front seats. I purchased a black two piece carpet brand new which will go with the sale to replace the brown carpet my dad had installed which replaced the original greyish factory carpet. I chose the black carpet to match the two front black bucket seats I found for it a few years ago which are in very good condition and both buckets have black velour arse/lower back inserts. From experience, these would be a godsend on hot sunny days. From factory the seats were all a creamy white colour, which the back seat still is, however the contrast between the new black fronts and old white back seat looks really good to me. 

The engine was built to use on LPG and unleaded with hardened valves etc as the car was fitted with LPG in 1988, however that LPG system has been completely removed and now the engine runs on petrol only, and I have purchased a brand new carburettor, not yet fitted, which goes with the sale. I rebuilt the original radiator with a new heavy duty 3 row core back when the engine was rebuilt, its still in good usable condition too. The extra row of tubes cools much better too, as I had to install a thermofan to deal with stop/start city traffic, but was able to remove it once the bigger radiator went in.

 I'm open to offers, but we all know what a magical and much sought after piece of Australian Automotive History that I am offering here for sale, so please, don't throw silly low numbers at me.


The old girl has not been registered since 2002. The body is really pretty straight, it has some rust in the bottom of both rear quarters, but for a nearly 60 year old car it's not too bad at all.

 It has been treated well whilst in this family's ownership, and its new owner will come to appreciate this fact when rebuilding it.

Extras-

Car has its original rear Venetian and front sun visor fitted, and a new electronic distributor, a new coil and set of ignition leads goes with the sale too.

 There's also a set of new chrome rocker covers and a 2800rpm stall converter, never been fitted, to suit that I collected over the years.

As well as all the wheels in photos, about 23 of them, it also comes with a spare Fairmont grill and some NOS headlights. And a set of spare door cards in the same colour. There's a set of extractors to go with it too as well as the original "mustang bred" air cleaner.

It will be sold with the original factory log book with the original owners name in it and the original 8track cartridge stereo player it came with. I've also found a full set of chrome windscreen trims in great nic, and the set on the car are pretty good, but this set's even better. Also I have a set of bonnet hinge/spring mechanisms that came off a wrecked XRGT in GT Gold. I'll include these in the deal too. I've also given the engine a oil and filter change and have flushed the radiator and added new coolant, and installed new radiator hoses. I also just installed a new battery tray, there's a new battery hold down clamp and there's a new driver's front window regulator repair kit included in sale. There's a new unused xw-xy battery tray support from rare spares- buyer can have that too. A chrome horn piece for the steering wheel- with the half-ring intact- goes with it too, as well as one with its half-ring missing

The only rust repair needed is at the bottom of both rear quarter panels. All the rest of car- doors and floor and roof and sills and firewall and engine bay and torquebox and fuel tank- they are all solid. 

So there's quite the list of added extras that the new owner won't need to spend money on, and there's also much money to be saved where rust won't need to be cut out and replaced.
