Michaela Frey began in Vienna in 1951 as an artist. The business continued to grow to a point where she partnered with Dr Friedrich Wille in the 1970's. It was during this period that the Frey Wille 'fire-enamel' process began. A process where many many layers of enamel are applied resulting in a very resilient finish with stunningly brilliant shining colour and excellent detail.

The brand's original style of enamel ornamentation and fire-enamelling techniques was created in the 1960s by Viennese designer and company founder Michaela Frey, who perfected the fine-enamel technique over several decades.

Michaela Frey's (now Frey Wille) collections are distinguished by their use of colorful and gold motifs. They are designed with original ideas from the company's artists, or using motifs from influential or mythological artists. The company has concentrated on motifs by artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, especially Austrian painters in various product collections.
