Details: This is a classic narrative history of the European and Indian experience in North America in the 1600's. The narrative begins in French Canada and tells the early colonial experience in North America with particular reference to the colonists' relations with Indian tribes and competition for the fur trade. It also gives a detailed background of the French failure on this continent.

Excellent maps, which are such a help in locating places and understanding events. Great endpaper maps of The Indian World showing the locations of the various indian tribes.

"This sweeping narrative encompasses the French,  British, Dutch, and Swedish colonial experience during the seventeenth century and the  beginning struggle  between these people for control of North America.

"Throughout the book, the author diverges on stories  which apparently intrigue him on such diverse topics as the continuation of the manorial system in New York to  the  1840's, the courage of the Jesuits, Indian battles, and methods of Indian torture. By these stories, the author illuminates the central theme which is that the English overcame the wilderness while the French lived with it.The author concludes his narrative at the beginning of the military struggle between France and England near the end of the seventeenth century."

A fine addition for your bookshelf!

About Us:

Rivendell Antiquarian Books sells used rare, vintage and collectable books predominantly from pre 1970. We have been sellers of antiquarian books for over 20 years, and our experience helps ensure quality descriptions of our rare and collectable books. Be assured that we want your experience with Rivendell Antiquarian Books to be enjoyable and problem free.

We believe that it is a travesty to simply throw away a used book when there is little or nothing wrong with it - we believe in giving each book the chance of finding a new home. We appreciate the impact a good book can have. We know the excitement of a new page turner, or the familiar joy of an old favorite, and we find satisfaction in putting older, and often scarce books in the hands of people who have the same love for old books that we do.

Customer Service:

Rivendell Antiquarian Books is committed to ensuring each customer is entirely satisfied with their puchase and our service. If you have any issues or concerns please contact us and we will be more than happy to help.

Our books have been inspected carefully by hand by experienced book valuers to ensure the condition description is as accurate as possible for this exact copy pictured. If you have questions about the book before or after purchasing, please feel free to contact us!

Packaging:

We take pride in packaging our books for safe delivery, and if you check our feedback, you will see this reflected in the comments of many pleased customers. For nearly all of our books, we use a specially designed boxing system from IPS (Inovative Packaging Solutions) located in York, PA. These media shipping boxes are designed to conform to the size of the book, securing it and preventing it from bumping around during shipping. The end result is a box which provides a double thickness of cardboard covering the front and back of the book; actually almost like a box within a box. The outer layer of cardboard extends beyond the ends of the inner "box" which very efficiently protects the corners of the book from being bumped and damaged by the sometimes rough handling packages receive in transit. In addition we place the book in a plastic bag to help guard against moisture if a package is left out in the elements.

Delivery:

We aim to get all books shipped within 24 hours of order except on weekends. We can't control the delivery time once a book leaves our hands, but most of the time USPS is prompt in delivery, and the expected delivery time given by eBay is usually fairly accurate. Because we use media mail to keep costs down, it does take a little longer for delivery, and occasionally packages get delayed in the mail system. If for some reason your order has not arrived within the expected time frame, please get in contact with us so that we can try to help you.
