A very good copy of this title, expertly re-backed using the original boards and spine with original free endpapers, corners also refurbished. Pages are; engraved title page, viii,324;216;178, collated complete. Each of the 24 monarchs has their own engraved portrait (the last of King Charles I being by Danckerts after Van Dyck), and there are also 10 other engravings in the text plus woodcut initial letters to each chapter and some tailpieces. Internally the book is very fresh with bright pages, no damage or staining.Very neat repair to front edge of title page. Richard Baker wrote his Chronicle during the ten years he spent as a debtor in the Fleet Prison, London, where he died. It was first published in 1643 and ran to a number of editions, as well as being translated into Dutch, this being the first edition of that work.
