Here I have an antique cast iron handle (grate lifter/shaker) for a wood stove.  

Handle end has a square hole.  I'm not exactly sure how to measure the hole as it is flared at the opening.  I would say about 5/8 inch.  Counting the flare would make it a bit more.  Please ask if you have any questions!

It appears to have several raised letters or figures on the handle right next to the "hand portion".  However I am very uncertain what the figures are.  I'm not even sure where I got this handle!  I've always had a liking for "olden things" and so added odds and ends to my collection when I had the opportunity, because I might use it someday!
