This unique set of Trouser Braces is made from Box Cloth and leather fitting, but what makes these rare is that the leather button taps are connected to the braces with catgut. Thurston’s seems to have stopped using this method (See photos). The catgut* fittings give the braces a unique look about them. They are in excellent condition. The owner certainly has not seen them on sale for some time now which makes them a collectors idem.
Albert Thurston has become a by-word for quality in their braces and suspenders; worn by kings, princes, presidents and successful businessmen across the world. An utterly fist class British product.
*Catgut is a type of cord that is prepared from the natural fiber as leather is. Despite the name, catgut is not made from cat intestines. Historically, catgut was the most common material for the strings of harps, lutes, violins, violas, cellos, doublebasses, acoustic guitars, and other stringed musical instruments, as well as the heads of older marching snare drums.
