A sweet find for  sewing machine free motion embroidery enthusiasts and vintage sewing machine accessory collectors.

Your vintage Pfaff Sewing Machine Embroidery Hoop was made with a low profile in order to fit easily under an embroidery foot.
Note: The embroidery feet are not included and are used here only to illustrate this type of embroidery hoop.
Embroidery Seamsters move their embroidery work out from under the sewing machine foot frequently. This is done to reposition the embroidery design on the fabric as they continue stitching.

What makes this hoop special for sewing machines? Common hand embroidery hoops cannot be used on a sewing machine. The hoop rim is too high.
A Seamster using a hand embroidery hoop won't be able get the tall side of the hoop under the embroidery foot without removing the foot every time the embroidery design needs to be repositioned.
In the example photo below, you can see there isn't enough clearance over the tall rim of a hand embroidery hoop.

Vintage wood sewing machine embroidery hoops are low profile. That is, they are short rimmed and made with enough space between the bottom of the embroidery foot and the bed of the sewing machine in mind.

In addition, a shallow curve is cut into both hoop rings to create more space for the embroidery hoop to pass under the bottom of the embroidery foot.
Remember to line up the two curves when assembling the two wood hoop rings and to use the hoop with the curves at the top.

Note: the brass screw is inserted from the plain metal plate to the plate with the built-in nut (little round metal sleeve on the right) and turned to tighten the hoop.

Remember when using a sewing machine embroidery hoop to lay the fabric over the larger hoop and then press the smaller hoop down into place. This positions the fabric to sit flat against the top of your embroidery feed cover plate.

Your beautiful vintage German made 5 1/4th" Pfaff sewing machine embroidery hoop is ready to use.
