RARE CRESCENT TOYS 1948 PRESSED STEEL TINPLATE 25 POUNDER FIELD GUN

This is hard to identify correctly as there are no examples currently listed or sold on eBay, or even any images on google and I haven’t been able to find pictures in any guides.

There’s no identification castings or stamps on any of the metal parts. However, moulded into the outside edge of the wheels is CRESCENT ENGLAND. They are the same solid rubber wheels as the #1805 Tractor.

Its construction is predominantly tinplate/pressed steel for the blast shield, legs, seats and firing mechanism. The barrel and its supports are diecast.

It has a working spring-loaded firing mechanism. Pull back on the pin until the firing lever engages, then pull back on the lever.

I can see the beginnings of some diecast fatigue in the barrel support and there is some evidence of repair/conservation which has been successful without being too obvious.

There’s a single, straight axle with a cardboard collet/spacer on one side

Now it could be that this is another manufacturer’s product with Crescent wheels on it but as it came with a job lot of similar era un-molested military toys, I’m inclined to think this is a Crescent model - possibly No. 235 “Cannon”. If you know different, do let me know.

A lovely and rare piece for your collection.
