Japanese Buddhist Altar Fitting Metal Bell 

This is a vintage Japanese Buddhist alter fitting, Shogo. A Shogo is a metal ringing device used during a service. The shōgo is placed on a tatami stand and is struck with a stick called a Shimoku to make a sound. It is used to take rhythm during nembutsu. (Used in the Tendai, Shingon, and Jodo sects)
