William Joseph “Bill” Rigney (January 29, 1918 - February 20, 2001) spent 26 seasons in the Major Leagues, including 18 years as a big league manager. 

Rigney spent all of his playing days with the New York Giants (1946-1953), enjoying his best year in 1947 with career highs in home runs (17), RBIs (59), runs (84), hits (142), doubles (24), and games played (130). He played in his lone All-Star Game the following year. 

Three years after leaving the game, Rigney rejoined the Giants as their manager (1956-1960, 1976) and led the club in its first season after moving from New York to San Francisco in 1958. He later signed on as the original manager of the expansion Los Angeles Angels (1961-1969), winning 1962 AL Manager of the Year honors. 

Bill also spent three seasons managing the Minnesota Twins (1970-1972), leading that club to the 1970 AL West championship. 

In an 18-season managerial career, Rigney posted a 1,239–1,321 record in 2,561 games, and later acted as a scout for the Angels and San Diego Padres, and as a front-office consultant and an Oakland A’s broadcaster during the 1980s.
