Hello and welcome to The House of chrome.

You are looking at a great general purpose microphone made by Electro Voice during the 1950's & 60's that was intended to be used for dispatch purposes and general broadcasting. It was an ideal mic for a HAM radio set up and just happens to make for one of the better dynamic harp mics available today. It comes with a short cable in which to operate as well as the original 428 model PTT "push to talk" desk stand.

Pic # 2 is from an old E.V catalog showing the 641 and 638 model and it's characteristics. The 638 and 641 microphone utilized the exact same element but the 641 came with an elongated body via a center plastic extension with on / off switch which the 638 did not. The 638 was an all metal construction being very rugged and basically bullet proof.

Pic # 3 shows the E.V 428 PTT desk stand and it's basic characteristics.

This 638 has a high impedance setting with a very strong 100% signal. It's omni-directional as well picking up a little more background than a uni-directional mic. This mic is very "rockabilly" sounding in nature and has a very distinct, fun sound if you like something that's a bit old school. An excellent harp mic as well with zero bass. It's a crunchy higher pitched sound. I've sold dozens of them for that very purposes and they never get returned.   These little mics have a very mid century vibe as well that stands out.

The 641 & 638's front grill has a classic design that resembled the air intake for many of the early American and Soviet fighter planes of that era. You'll notice that the microphone manufacturers were copying the styles of the American automobile, aircraft and space agencies for many years.

Made right here in the U.S.A 60 + years ago this chunky, little mic is covered from head to toe in polished chrome. Everything is tight. No loose parts.

The mic is cosmetically very nice overall with almost no wear on the polished chrome body. Zero dents on the front screen. There are no dents or fractures either. I'd rate it a very conservative 8 + on a scale of 1 -10. Please let the detailed pics be your guide. The threads for both the cable and stand are excellent with zero wear. The 638 badge looks pretty darn nice too. This one is ready to plug in and play.

The mic comes with a shorter 6 foot vintage cable that has the male Amphenol (Heathkit style) 2 pin end connector that will work with specific audio equipment. The cable is soft, pliable and free of damage.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE...

It's a 1950's era E.V 428 PTT "push to talk" microphone desk stand. This is an all aluminum stand with a stock painted finish and on / off lever that activates the microphone. This model was widely produced by Electro Voice during the 1950's through 1970's. As you can see the stand thread itself is universal and any mic or mic clip will technically mate to the top of it.

You'll notice that this stand has a particular Amphenol connector that attaches to the 638 microphone.

This particular E.V stand has the same amount of wear as the mic you can see. There are no deep scratches, fractures, dents or pitting on the stand. The riser & lever shows extremely lite wear as well. You'll see how the lever can be activated and held in place for a full live feature...or simply depress the lever only when needed to speak in pics # 6 & 7. All 3 original rubber pads are included but well worn.

Mic stand is appx 5 1/2 inches tall X 5 inches wide. The 428 with mic is appx 11 inches tall.

 Mic stand is a true 8 + on a scale of 1 - 10.

If you need a great general broadcasting or harp mic...this is your girl.
