RARE EARLY to MID 20TH CENTURY AMERICAN VINTAGE HAND PAINTED, TWO SIDED, 28 PIECE WOODEN ALPHABET BLOCKS, featuring SHADOWED, TWO-COLOR, HAND PAINTED HIGH CASE LETTERS & LIGHTLY LACQUERED RECTANGULAR, VERTICAL FORMAT WOODEN BLOCKS, MADE from DOUGLAS FIR WESTERN PINE
[100% hand lettered & painted by hand, with 2-color, shadowed lettering on both lightly lacquered sides of the blocks. There are some triple, double & single letters shown in the photos (no numbers, letters only.) This 28 piece wooden block ensemble was found in southern New Hampshire & not much is known about them aside from them being quite well preserved & not previously abused. They were fabricated from Douglas Fir wooden slats & the blocks have butt-cut ends & slightly rounded edges. Each block is hand lettered with one color & then hand lettered once again, this time with slightly off registration, creating a shadow effect with one color becoming the shadow of another. The blocks were subsequently, after being painted, lightly lacquered. All together, they would've most likely been used in an educational or mercantile setting, with the user being able to spell out words & expand their vocabulary or advertise products or a sale. Terrific. Clearly not your average vintage alphabet blocks.]
