Up for sale is the official memorial service program held for Rosa Louise McCauley Parks (February 4, 1913 – October 24, 2005) at Metropolitan AME Church in Washington, D.C. on October 31, 2005. It is printed on a glossy 8 ½ “x 11” paper that was folded in half. 4 pages.


Some of the tributes included Dorothy Height, Julian Bond, Gwen Ifil, John Conyers, Jr., Oprah Winfrey, and Ernest Green of the Little Rock Nine. The back cover features an illustration of the bronze Congressional Gold Medal awarded by the federal government honoring her contributions to the nation during the Civil Rights Movement.


Post-death events: Parks’ coffin was flown to Montgomery, Alabama, where she lay in repose at the altar St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal (AME) church on October 29, 2005. Her casket was then transported to to Washington, D.C. to lie in honor in the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol. In the nation’s capitol, a memorial service was held at Metropolitan AME Church. Her body and casket then returned to Detroit, where she lay in repose at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. Her funeral service, held  on November 2, 2005, was seven hours long.
