This is an unusual shaped Jade Snuff bottle in the form of a sitting Elephant with its trunk turned upwards. It has a variety of color skins towards the top of the elephant's body to include Russet over most of the top of its head and back, with splashes of light brown, beige, and black, over a white-gray ground. It was probably made during the period Qing Dinasty period, 1740-1840 when artisans were experimenting with making bottles in different shapes and forms, as illustrated in forms made in 'The Collector's Book of Snuff Bottles", by Bob C. Stevens, page 116, and 117 (see photo #7).
It has a nice tactile feel to it; it feels comfortable when grabbed with your hand. It has an elongated raised bottom that features a concave base. It also has a wide mouth; typical of the period. It comes with a similar color jadeite stopper with a black collar. This spectacular looking bottle is in excellent preserved condition.
