This is a Chinese Blanc-de-Chine Porcelain Figure of
Guanyin or Guan Yin 觀音 "Goddess of Mercy". The graceful figure is skillfully modelled seated
with her left leg crossed in royal-ease pose on a layered rock throne with perforations. Her head facing forward with heavily lidded
eyes and a benevolent expression and serene smile rendered with the urna of
wisdom and with pendulous earlobes. She is dressed in voluminous robes characterized
by heavy folds that cover her arms, while open at the chest to reveal a bejeweled
necklace. her coiffured hair ornately
tied beneath a cowl and swept up in a chignon and secured with a ruyi-head
diadem. Her right hand with well-defined
fingers over her knee, and her left hand resting over the throne. The
four-character mark of ‘He Chaozong yin’ in a square, and a double-gourd with
the mark of Dehua, in seal characters are impressed in relief on the back of
the figure. An even creamy ivory-tinged
glaze has been applied to the figure overall.
Figure is in Excellent Preserved condition. One nail missing from her left hand.
