This is a beautiful antique Japanese mid Meiji. Scholars, water dropper. It’s in the shape of a gourd and made out of bronze with small gold and silver gold accents. The inside of it has either lead or pewter inside of it at a slight angle, which gives the item wait. I believe that this has some kind of spiritual meaning. In Japanese another name for this is a Suitaki and it is essentially the same thing as a Chinese water dropper for a scholar. This came from a large Asian antiques collection in San Francisco and is in quite good condition. It has a small tag on the bottom identifying it being from the 1750s. This guy only bought quality stuff.
